  • It's a Christian camp right? What does the spiritual formation aspect look like?

    • Camp Mokulēʻia is a Christian faith based camp. Our spiritual formation curriculum is thematic and is very approachable to campers from all or no faith backgrounds.
    • Campers will attend morning devotions with the entire camp to learn the theme and scripture for the day and sing songs to get them energized and excited for activities.
    • Campers attend evening devotions in their age groups. Elementary, middle, and High School camp each have their own chaplain. This is the time where they get to ask the hard questions, learn how to love and care for one another, be encouraging, and go deep with life's big questions.
  • What if I am non-Christian?

That's okay! We have campers from all and no faith backgrounds. Our thematic spiritual formation curriculum is very approachable for all campers. Our goal is to help each camper become a better person by the end of the week, however that might look for them. Our counselors and chaplains meet the campers where they are and help them think deep about life, love, community, family and faith. We have campers that come from Episcopal churches, United Methodist, other denominations, and no faith background at all. It's a beautiful way to appreciate our diversity, learn from one another and grow together. We help each camper take the next step on their own faith journey.

  • How can I communicate with my camper?

Families are welcome to send daily emails to camperemail@campmokuleia.org. We will print it out, fold it and their counselor will deliver it during rest time. Feel free to send a notebook with your camper so they can write you letters to show you on Friday.

It’s always fun to see their transition throughout the week from maybe feeling nervous or homesick to feeling confident and not wanting to leave!

If there is an emergency at home, you are welcome to call the emergency number to speak with our Summer Camp Director to determine when to speak with your campers. We ask that you only utilize this in an emergency. Campers need time to build confidence and independence from home in a safe environment. This often takes a few days of full disconnection from home. Give them time and space to practice all the skills you have spent years trying to develop in them. It’s a beautiful thing to see their growth on Friday at pick up!

  • Are you an accredited camp?

Yes - Being accredited by the American Camp Association indicates that Camp Mokulēʻia meets or exceeds industry-accepted and government-recognized standards and best practices for our programs, facilities, and staff

  • What is your camper to counselor ratio?

Campers are assigned to a cabin with 2 counselors and an activity group with 2 counselors. They will be with these same counselors throughout the week which means great opportunities for bonding! The required ratios for groups are as follows:

    • For campers ages 6-8 years old = 1 staff to every 6 overnight campers
    • For campers ages 9-14 years old = 1 staff to every 8 overnight campers
    • For campers ages 15-18 years old = 1 staff to every 10 overnight campers

Even though the group ratios are listed above, we always have 2 staff members present except during rest time when staff will rotate taking their breaks.

Elementary and middle school cabins and activity groups have 2 staff members and up to 12 campers.

High school activity groups have 2 staff members and up to 18 campers.

  • Does Camp Mokulēʻia offer financial assistance?

Thanks to our incredible donors, Camp Mokulēʻia provides financial scholarships to campers each year. Scholarships can be applied for after registration and are distributed on a case by case basis.

  • I’m nervous my camper may get homesick. What can I do to help?

It's completely normal to feel a bit nervous about homesickness, both for you and your camper! Here are a few things to keep in mind:

    • Open Communication: Encourage your camper to share their feelings with you. Let them know it’s okay to feel homesick and that many campers experience it at some point.
    • Familiar Items: Suggest bringing a few comfort items from home, like a favorite blanket or stuffed animal. These can provide a sense of security.
    • Stay Busy: We have a packed schedule filled with fun activities that will keep your camper engaged and distracted long enough to help them grow and feel comfortable with their new friends. Being active can really help reduce homesickness.
    • Buddy System: Sign up with a friend. Having a familiar face at camp can make a big difference!
    • Positive Reinforcement: Remind them of all the exciting things they’ll get to do and the new friends they’ll make. Focusing on the positives can help shift their mindset.

Remember, homesickness usually fades as campers adjust. We're here to support them every step of the way!
